The Club has adopted Alfred Wainwright as its Patron and
is very proud of the master fellwalker who did so much for
promoting the activity. He is the author of a large number of
books on the subject - a must for any enthusiast.

The Club name "RAC" was not derived from a well known
motoring organisation, but from the phrase "Roundheads
And Cavaliers". It relates to men who have a helmet and
those who have had it removed!

The RAC Walking Club was founded in 1996 by a group
of men who are all members of the same Chesterfield
dinner party rota.
